I posted this on the Sims 3 Community Forum Today...

(note: As a rule, I usually stay away from the cesspool of chaos on the general topic forum of The Sims3 community. I stick to Creative Corner and Create a World, mostly. I broke my rule today. I'm just as frustrated as everyone else about the recent patch and lack of bug fixes. Here's my post...)

There's a lot of lists circulating about how many things are 'broken' in Sims3 right now - and not fixed in the recent patch. While I agree with and have experienced a lot of them - I was living with it as many are, because I love the game. I found mods by Twallan and others to fix some of the things I needed fixed. I can deal with all the derelict vehicles in inventories/lots, the broken gem/escavation spawns, babies vanishing, sims getting stuck in bed... etc. etc. -- I have command codes to workaround most of those (and, I shouldn't have to do that).

But there are a couple of issues that are real gamebreakers for me.

Sims have 3 basic needs - much like the human basic needs. I'll use Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs as my model:

1. Physiological Needs - Food, water, shelter, clothing... etc.

2. Safety Needs- job security, financial stability, predictable routines, etc.

3. Love / Social Needs - belonging, family, social groups, communication, etc.

So lets see what's broken with our poor sims in this hierarchy:

1. Ok I have not (YET) had a Sim DIE from getting stuck in bed and unable to eat, or stuck somewhere on a pixel and die from lonliness or starvation. So I'm going to say despite those - the basic phsyiological needs of sims are still going ok. HOWEVER - there's one that isn't working. Certain sims get a bug where no matter what you do for them - all their motives can be green. They are fed, they are full on energy, etc... but they are UNHAPPY. All the time. Why? Is this a physiological bug or a social / love necessity bug??

2. I would say the biggie in this category is broken skill gains. Most simmers probably aren't even aware this is broken and causing their sims to either gain skill too slowly or too rapidly. This started with Late Night. I use a mod by Pescado with 'fixall' command to try keeping this in check. routinely, in my town... anywhere from 30-75 sims will have broken skill modifiers that have to be realigned every single play session. This is unacceptable!! Since skill gains are what make my sims a success or failure in their jobs and hobbies - it makes the game pointless if they are BROKEN.

3. I have not seen as much in this category - once I had a broken family tree issue, but for the most part - sims are behaving as they should in their love and friendship relationships. Sims are romancing and socializing (in my game) correctly as far as I can tell. I'm going to say this section is ok with some minor issues with broken relationships.

So I am hoping this essay will show other simmers (I can only wish EA devs would read it) how serious the problems with Sims 3 have become and why those who are upset by the lack of patches have right to be unhappy. Their SIMS are unhappy, and they can't help them be happy. This breaks the game. That's the whole point of the game. Make your sims successful and happy little beings.

EA LISTEN TO YOUR SIMS CRYING... their tiny voices, banded together across the simuverse like all those who's in who-ville... you need to fix your Grinch!!
